Bellingham's Central Business District
 The Central Business District is the downtown of Bellingham and is a mostly commercial
and industrial area. Although there are a few condos and
apartments for rent and many many more planned for future
developement. There are a few single family detached residences
in this neighborhood. Instead, the business district is
a hub for local businesses with unique shops, charming
restaurants and offices in character buildings.

Local Business and Attractions
 . Home to a lot of the city’s entertainment, the Central Business District has
the Mt. Baker theater, lots of restaurants and the always
popular farmers market. It also has the harbor which is
currently going through a major redevelopment since the
city bought the land from Georgia-Pacific. Although still
in the planning phase, the final project will include parks,
commercial space and more condominiums.

Elementary
students in this neighborhood generally attend Columbia or Parkview. Middle
school students attend Whatcom Middle School while the older students attend
Bellingham High School. 
The photo at right was taken over 100 years ago in front of the "Welcome to Bellingham"
sign located along State St on the route from downtown
to Fairhaven. Bellingham's Central Business District is
home to many historical buildings from the turn of the
19th Century.
