Fall and Winter Home Tip- Making the Most of the Heat in your Home.
September 15th, 2011 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham, Random, Whatcom County | 2 Comments »
The weather this morning is cooler and Fall is in the air. While i was thinking about getting my home ready for the Fall and Winter months I remembered a great home tip I came across while reading All You Magazine’s December 2010 issue .
“Change the blade direction on your ceiling fan in the colder months. (from counter-clockwise to clockwise) creates an updraft that recycles heat throughout the room.”
Source: Sara Sicotte budgetsavvydiva.com
I have lived in homes with wood heating my entire life and some how managed to miss this great advice. Most ceiling fans have a switch on them which you can use to change the directions of the fan’s spin. Don’t forget to clean your fan blades before reversing the direction, or you might have some unwelcome dust bunnies flung around the house.

Tips to Make Taking Care of Your Potted Plants Easier
May 3rd, 2011 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham, Random, Whatcom County | No Comments »
If you are anything like me than gardening does not come naturally to you. I seem to be the polar opposite of a green thumb when it comes to keeping plants alive. Below are some tips that I have found helpful in the past for keeping my potted plants alive and well.
- Make sure your containers are within reach of the garden hose. Let’s face it if things are easier to water you are more likely to water them.
- Do not just get the cheapest soil. I have made that mistake many times. Look for a quality potting soil that contains lime, controlled-release fertilizer, and water retaining elements.
-I have found it helpful to add a small amount of shredded bark, gravel or pine cones to the top of my containers and add a saucers underneath to help with drainage yet still retain moisture.
- Check on the plants in your containers and pots frequently. If one plant does not appear to be doing well, remove the plant. You do not want a bad plant to take away nutrients from the other plants or to spread fungus or other diseases.

Tips for Making Your Home Show Well to Buyers.
January 18th, 2011 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham, Random, Real Estate Questions | 2 Comments »
Are you thinking of selling your Bellingham or Whatcom County real estate? Here are some of our tips for you to make your home show to its full advantage. In doing this, you will be ahead of most of the sellers and your competition already on the market in the way your home shows…
INSIDE:
1. Clear all unnecessary objects from furniture throughout the house. Keep decorative objects on the furniture restricted to groups of 1, 3 or 5 items.
2. Clear all unnecessary objects from the kitchen countertops. If it hasn’t been used for three months…put it away! Clear refrigerator fronts of messages, pictures, etc. (A sparse kitchen helps the buyer mentally move their own things into your kitchen.)
3. In the bathroom, remove any unnecessary items from countertops, tubs, shower stalls and commode tops. Keep only your most needed cosmetics, brushes, perfumes, etc., in one small group on the counter, use a basket or tray to organize small items. Coordinate towels to one or two colors only.
4. Rearrange or remove some of the furniture if necessary. As owners, many times we have too much furniture in a room. This is wonderful for our own personal enjoyment, but when it comes to selling, we need to thin out as much as possible to make rooms appear larger.
5. Take down or rearrange certain pictures or objects on walls. Patch and paint if necessary.
6. Review the inside room by room, and:
a: Paint any room needing paint.
b) Clean carpets or drapes that need it.
c) Clean windows.
7. Don’t worry about closets or garages in regard to being “too full”. People expect that.
8. Leave on lights in dark areas (hallways, etc.) during the day. During “showings” turn on all lights and lamps.
