The kitchen tends to be the central gathering place of the home and often times the first place in the home to start to show some wear. If you are looking to give your kitchen a boost but do not have a ton of money to spend on an update or remodel below are some tips to help you spruce up your kitchen.
1. Paint your walls: In so many cases a fresh coat of pain can make all the difference in the world. The walls in your kitchen can take a beating with food and water splash marks to kids dirty fingers, a fresh coat a paint will give your kitchen a new fresh feel.
2. Revamp your cabinets: You are your family are constantly opening and closing your cabinets often times without the cleanest of hands and it might be starting to take its toll. If you think your cabinets need some work you might consider painting them.
Painting your cabinets is by far the most cost effective way to update them. Just be sure you do a good job sanding and taping off so you don’t make a mess of them in a hurry.
New Hardware can also be a great way to liven up the look and feel of your cabinets. You can find new cabinet hardware for relatively cheap at your local hardware store .I have even cabinet hardware on sale at the local Fred Meyer as well.
3. New Sink Hardware: Your sink tends to be the most used part of your kitchen and once it becomes dated and worn it can bring down the look of the whole kitchen. There are many new faucets for all price ranges at your local hardware store and they are very easy to install.
4. Lighting: Do you have a feeling your kitchen lighting is not up to par? The lighting in a room can make the room feel more open and spacious. If you are having this problem you might consider new lighting fixtures. Most all hardware stores have a lighting section featuring different lighting options such as recessed can lights and track lighting to brighten up your kitchen.

If you are anything like me your house is not just painted white . You may have a variety of colors throughout the house. Lots of colors in your home is great, but can sometimes be problematic when it comes to finding the exact paint shade to do some touch up work. While reading All You Magazine yesterday I came across a great tip for helping you keep track of the different paint hues and types you have used around your house. Carole Nicksin writes,” To keep track of the paint colors I have used in my home, I write the name on the underside of the switch plate in each room. When it’s time for a touch-up, I can get an exact match.”
