Fishing is Good in the San Juans

July 17th, 2009 by Mike | Posted in Fishing, Random | No Comments »

Another bright fish caught in the Northern San Juans.  Mike took his little brother Tommy out for his birthday on Thursday evening and managed to get him on this nice fish.

The salmon are running a little shallower than normal and when they hit- it is a madhouse. The battle lasted about 10 minutes and 3 big runs of the line. Crab pots were dropped on the north end of Orcas with no results.

There is a ton of bait in the islands- the hot spot has been Tide Pt on Cypress–

Sandy Point Canal entrance

June 24th, 2009 by Mike | Posted in Fishing | No Comments »

For those of you that use the canal entrance at Sandy Point, just west of Ferndale- be careful. We went down yesterday and had a look at the minus 3.8 tide– there was about 12 inches of water across the middle. The depth hasn’t really changed much over the past 10 years- but the way to navigate through has. getting-tightIn the past we would hug the north edge and now it appears- center all the way in is the better option.  Going out run the center line, go about 50 ft out of the breakwater and then turn left and go just inside the green marker. So it looks to me like at a “zero tide” we all should be good- with over 3 feet of water.

For the opening of Salmon July 1st in marine area 7– the low is 0.2 at 8:18 for Sandy Point– should be easy access.

If you have any questions for boating in the San Juans, moorage in Bellingham or Sandy Point- or for questions on Sandy Point Real Estate- just give us a call 360-303-2734be-careful

Mike Bredeson Guides the “Reel Estate” to the Halibut Grounds

Reel-Estate Going out for the Big Ones

Reel-Estate Going out for the Big Ones

Sunday was  a great morning out on the water in the San Juans.  Mike & Kim left the dock at Roche Harbor  on San Juan Island- and turned the corner heading south. Crossing the border below Darcy Island (Canada side of the border).  Just on the west side of the Rockfish Protection Zone near Zero Rock- they landed a nice 40# Halibut- and lost a couple other nice fish.

Sidney BC Fishing Derby 2009

May 6th, 2009 by Mike | Posted in Fishing, Random | No Comments »
Mike and Kim Bredeson and "Reel Estate" in the Sidney Fishing Derby

Mike and Kim Bredeson and "Reel Estate" in the Sidney Fishing Derby

Sidney Angler’s Derby May 1st and 2nd 2009

The 13th annual Sidney anglers fishing derby was a success, despite that only around  40 fish were weighed in for 2 days and 100 boats. The “Team Reel Estate” ( Mike & Kim Bredeson, with Lance & Connie Lootens) managed to land a small salmon and then a keeper 13.5 pounder.  Not enough to make the leader board but a good time was had by all. A local fisherman from Sidney BC  took home the first place prize- 2nd place went to Jay Field from Anacortas Washington – Jay is the chairman for the March Derby held in Anacortas .

Third Place went to Kirk Hawley & Mike McAuley from Bellingham.

Be sure to check back for other upcoming derby results as well as prawn, crab and ling cod catches.  If any tips are needed for fishing in the northern San Juans- we are happy to help.  Not only can I help with your fishing questions but if you happen to have a question about Bellingham Real Estate, well, I can help you there too.
