March 14th, 2011 by Fawn | Posted in Lynden, Random, Whatcom County, Whatcom County Events | No Comments »

Lynden Craft and Antique ShowCome out to Lynden March 17-19th and visit the 25rd annual Spring Craft and Antique show. I have been the the craft and antique show personally for the past six years and have always enjoyed browsing the booths of local antique collectors and craft vendors. Many of the vendors are from right here in Whatcom County and are displaying their handcrafted home and garden themed decor, jewelry, artwork and gourmet food items. Lunch and lattes are also available in the Garden Cafe located in the building.

The show is located at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden. General admission is $5.00 for adults, $4 for seniors and children under 12 are freeand parking is free. Hours at 10am to 8pm Thursday and Friday. 10am to 5pm on Saturday.

If you have never been out to Lynden before, you are in for a treat. Lynden is a charming town that celebrates it’s Dutch history in both architecture and festivals.  It is also obvious that people take pride in their town and their homes- I don’t believe that I have ever seen an unkempt Lynden yard. Tips for Flooded Roadways

January 12th, 2011 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham, Everson & Nooksack, Lynden, Random, Whatcom County | No Comments »

Whatcom County FloodingWith the major snow fall we had last night and now the warm temperatures, flooding may become a problem Lots of areas in Whatcom Count including low lying areas in Lynden, Ferndale and Everson are susceptible to flooding. If you do live in an area where flooding is an issue please use the tips below to stay safe.

-  Do not drive through a flooded area. If a road is flooded-out turn around and find a different route.
-  If you can’t find another route get to higher ground until the water subsides.
-  Many local drivers make the mistake of thinking the water is shallow and then they try to cross it. Don’t do this as the road underneath the water could be gone due to the flooding.
-  Vehicles can easily stall when driving through water. If your car stalls abandon it and climb to higher ground.
-  It takes only six inches of water to reach the bottom of most cars, which can cause loss of control and stalling.
-  It takes only one foot of water to float most vehicles.
- And it takes only two feet of rushing water to sweep cars, SUVs and, pick-ups right off the road.

Hope that none of you have to use these tips. But, just in case you are prepared!
