Tips to Clean your Home and Save in the Process!

May 19th, 2010 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham, Random, Whatcom County 3 Comments »

DishwasherEver find yourself searching for the perfect cleaner for a specific need in your home? You might be surprised to learn some of these simple tips to take care of messes or smells around your house with items you already have in the cupboard.

Eliminate Odors:  Keep your refrigerator smelling nice by placing a bowl of new coffee grounds in the refrigerator. They will keep the fridge smelling fresh and soak up any odor. Change out every two weeks.

Wash the Dishwasher: Is the inside of your dishwasher looking a little shabby?  You can clean the dishwasher by running a full cycle with an empty machine using one of the following four ingredients in the cleansing area.  1/2 cup white vinegar, 2 tablespoons powdered laundry bleach, lemon flavored kool-aide or even Tang.

Soften Up Baked on Foods: Ever look for a way to get tough baked on foods from your pots and pans?  Place one dryer sheet in the pot or pan, fill with water and let soak over night. The antistatic agent in the dryer sheet will loosen the foods and allow them to be sponged off very easily.

Get Rid of Scuffs:  Use a new tennis ball to wipe scuff marks off your woodworks, vinyl, tile floors or painted walls.  The tennis ball will not harm the service but will remove the scuff.

Great tips here! The dryer sheet on the pan is a new one for me. These can be great to share with some of your clients as well. Quick fixes like the coffee grinds and tennis ball can be a great way to prepare for an open house.
