Christmas in Vermont

  Picture of House

The holidays are upon us and so I thought I would use this as an opportunity to share a little bit about the winter season where I grew up, Woodstock, VT. This great town, which I will be returning to for the holidays, is a truly special place.  With a population of 3,200 this historic town is a close knit community.  It seems as though during every season (except maybe for mud season) there is a rush of tourists looking to experience a slower pace, explore the mountains, hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking trails, take memorable photos of the many covered bridges or the fall foliage, and the list goes on.  In the winter, it is a must to hit up the ski slopes; Woodstock is actually home to the first rope tow in the world.  A nice sized ski resort, Suicide Six is in

Woodstock and the impressive Killington Mountain Resort is just 15 minutes away. Wassail Weekend, which will be held on Dec. 7-9 this year, is a wonderful event in which the community celebrates the holiday season with the Wassail parade, period dances, caroling, carriage rides, and more.  Winters are chilly but snowy and magical.  The historic shops and residences, the lampposts and trees, and the village green all twinkle with white Christmas lights. The reflection on the snow is always quite spectacular.  A winter’s breakfast for both locals and travelers alike is sure to be accompanied by warm Vermont maple syrup. Lawrence and Mary Rockefeller provided the town with many remarkable touches including Billings Farm and Museum, Woodstock Inn and Resort, and my favorite-buried telephone and electrical lines throughout the village.  This quaint village has been called “the prettiest small town in America”-and well deserved. For anyone traveling to the East Coast, I encourage you to visit this special place and feel free to call or email me with any questions:527-8766 or Meghan@johnsonteamrealestate.com.
