New Co-op still on hold

November 15th, 2006 by Fawn | Posted in Bellingham No Comments »

The moratorium on building in the Cordata area (north Bellingham) is having an effect on many people. The Food Co-op wants to build a $2.5 million new store in Cordata, but their plans are on hold until this is sorted. Others have put down deposits on the new DR Horton homes, just to find out that DR Horton can’t get any building permits right now!

All of this is stemming from Trillium Corp. The Cordata area was developed by Trillium who had an agreement with the city to assist in paying for road construction and improvements once the area had 3.25 million square feet built (between all the buildings). That amount was reached in September, yet Trillium and the city of Bellingham still have not reached an agreement. So until they do, everyone else who has interests in the Cordata area is on hold as they wait to find out when they can build.
