Samish
Neighborhood Information
Samish neighborhood is the best of both worlds with a rural character and feel, yet close to all the city amenities. Hilly, tree lined streets wind through Samish passing by large lots with well maintained home. With the exception of the Ridgemont subdivision which is more suburban, the rest of the neighborhood is quiet and secluded. Many homes in the southern part of the neighborhood have beautiful views of the lake as well.
Samish is bordered on the west side by the I-5 giving this neighborhood easy access to the rest of town. Just across the highway is Sehome Village with a Haggens Grocery store, Starbucks, REI and other shops and services. Adjacent to Sehome Village is Samish Way with its many restaurants and behind that is Western Washington University. Historic Fairhaven is also very close to this neighborhood with Old Fairhaven Parkway going under the freeway. More shopping and services are also located at the north end of this neighborhood on Lakeway Drive.
The highlight of Samish is Lake Padden – the smallest of the three fresh water lakes in Whatcom County. With lots of trails, great swimming, fishing, boating and a playground, the Lake Padden city park is very popular with the locals.
Happy Valley is the Elementary school for Samish kids. Most students will go to Fairhaven Middle School, although some residents from the north east part of the neighborhood attend Kulshan Middle school. All teens attend Squalicum High School.
