Neighborhood
Information
The Birchwood Neighborhod is an
interesting study in contrasts. The neighborhood has historically
been an area consisting of single family homes built on extremely
large lots. It is characterized by older, well kept homes on
lots often an excess of 400 ft deep. Mature landscaping, and
narrow streets lend a rural atmosphere to the neighborhood. In
recent years the neighborhood has seen the growth of apartment
complexes located primarily along Northwest Avenue and other
large complexes on W. Maplewood. In addition there is a large
area of commercial property located in the vicinity of the intersection
of Northwest and Birchwood Avenue. This area includes an Albertson
Grocery Store, a couple of gas stations and other retail type
businesses.
Other significant features of the neighborhood include the Golf and Country Club,
a large gravel pit and three public school sites. The area is
a great place to raise a fmaily with easy accessablity to parks,
schools and shopping.
